Thought Leadership and You What exactly is Thought Leadership and what does it mean to our Association? Thought Leadership places an emphasis on heightening intellectual engagement with tangible, resource-rich outcomes that can strengthen the brand or presence of an organization. C. A.R.’s Thought Leadership initiative, which was launched in 2013, represents our ongoing commitment to enhancing the professionalism of all our members by striving to maintain our position as a leading housing organization. A focal point of C.A.R.’s new Thought Leadership program is to pursue dialogues that add clarity to the challenges and opportunities that will shape housing’s future. The program’s 2013 Roundtable Series reflects this commitment, and during our first Roundtable, CEOs from top national brokerages gathered in order to share their thoughts on the state of the industry. The findings of this inaugural event are available in the executive report “Industry Leader Insights,” which can be accessed at www.car.org/newsstand/news/thought leadershipreport. C. A.R.’s second executive report, “The Future of Housing Finance: Economic and Policy Insights,” features several prominent economists, including Janice Eberly, Professor of Finance at Northwestern University and former Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the U.S. Treasury; Edward Leamer, Director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast; David Min, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine and a nationally recognized expert on financial markets regulation; and economist Richard Green, Director of USC’s Lusk Center for Real Estate. In addition to these two reports, C.A.R. gathered panels of housing and demographics experts at last year’s EXPO in Long Beach to discuss the future of California real estate. I hope you were able to attend one of these lively and engaging discussions The findings from the first of these panels are enclosed with this issue of the magazine. The second panel is detailed in an article on pg. 20. These reports are just one facet of our initiative, which is comprised of a set of strategic activities designed to elevate our organization’s reputation and expand visibility among different publics. To be viewed as a thought leader is increasingly important in today’s world. In 2014, you can look forward to more from this new initiative.
