PMA March 2010 : Page 19 \UE \UE Specialty Color Services began experimenting with caffenol processing last year, after Hodges read about it in the Photojojo newsletter. “Th e basic ingredients in caff enol processing are instant coffee, vitamin C, and soda ash, which is sodium carbonate or washing soda,” Hodges says. “It gives the images a vintage look with an extended tonal range, which makes great negatives for scanning. With high-speed fi lm, we get a very fine-grain appearance. We also tried it with C-41 color fi lm, and we got an old cyanotype look.
